It's A Sad Goodbye.

Tear...Sniff...well, novel nesters...I've given up. Yup. Have you noticed? I haven't even done anything. It was a good idea and a good attempt, but I lack the good energy that comes with it! I find less and less time to read the book and then to even blog about it. I sorta felt like I was back in school cause there were deadlines and I was really turned off by the whole thing. Anywho, I'm sorry. Enjoy the book in your own freetime! Stay connected to my family blog here!

Goodnight to the back! Goodnight to the front! {Chapters 1-7}

Uh...really? There are already a couple things that don't stike my fancy.
  1. Probably not too relevant to the main story line, but how the dad stayed home and the mom worked? I realize this is the 80's people {not that I know if the 80's was big on stay-at-home dad's or anything}, but I'm a firm believer in a hard working husband and ESPECIALLY father. They mentioned he dealt alot with war issues. Go see a counselor. Anyone watch Grey's Anatomy? Um...does Dr. Hunt ring a bell?
  2. Also, how disappointed were you when you read the book jacket of the description and come to find out the oh-so-major blood incident was just a lame practical joke at a highschool reunion? We clearly know that she didn't kill him cause already in Chapter 1 good 'ole Dan Swansea was recalling previous events and already thinking about revenge. DEFINITELY not dead.

However, I feel like I got into the book pretty easily. Despite those two hiccups, I'm actually anxious to see what else unfolds considering we have so much more to read! A sweet memory arose as the author was explaining how Addie and Val pretty much met and that definitely took me back to the summer before 1st grade. My family and I just moved to Oregon from California so I was in a completely different world. The details are fuzzy, BUT it was only a couple days before I met my best friend of the time, Rachael Shinall {woot woot...are you reading this? :)} I believe she was riding her bike around the neighborhood. We exchanged glances...soon names...then became inseparable for many many years. We lost most of our contact at College, but thanks to the 21st Century of social networking and facebook, we have found each other again and talk every now and then to catch up! Does anyone else have any story like that?

Reading Schedule

Alright fellow book clubbers...let's hit the ground off running with Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner for the next couple months! If would like to join us this session...go...run...fly...to your nearest bookstore...library...or not-so-friendly neighbor to grab the book.

Best Friends Forever
by Jennifer Weiner
Addie Downs and Valerie Adler will be best friends forever. That's what Addie believes after Valerie moves across the street when they're both nine years old. But in the wake of betrayel during their teenage years, Val is swept into the popular crowd, while mousy, sullen Addie becomes her school's scapegoat.
Flash forward fifteen years. Valerie Adler has found a measure of fame and fortune working as the weathergirl at the local TV station. Addie Downs lives alone in her parent's house in their small hometown of Pleasant Ridge, Illinois, caring for a troubled brother and trying to meet Prince Charming on the Internet. She's just returned from Bad Date #6 when she opens her door to find her long-gone best friend standing there, a terrified look on her face and blood on the sleeve of her coat. "Something horrible has happened, " Val tells Addie, "and you're the only one who can help."

Here is what our schedule is going to look like ahead:

In this particular novel, most chapters are pretty short, nothing too long and agonizing, so don't get your hanky panky's in a bunch. :) You'll have a week to read the designated chapters {which come out to be about 60 pages a week} and on each Friday I will blog about my thoughts and opinions on the book so far. Please feel free to comment on what you think too with any questions you may have as well!

July 24th: Start Reading!
July 31st: Chapters 1-7
August 7th: Chapters 8-14
August 14th: Chapters 15-24
August 21st: Chapters 25-34
August 28th: Chapters 35-44
September 4th: Chapters 45-54

I'm looking forward to reading along with everyone and hearing what everyone has to say! Follow me on twitter too as I will be attempting to tweet my thoughts and opinions as I read along!

Our First Book.

Hello fellow nesters! I wanted to get started in choosing our first book to read! As I previously stated before I am really looking for our first read to be fun! My book of choice would be: Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner.

This particular novel is about friendships and betrayel. Everyone has friends right? And I'm sure everyone has someone they call a best friend too. I think it would be so cute and something all of us could relate to! Let me know what you think :)

Tweet Tweet.

Hey ya'll! I'm so glad you decided to take that flight into my virtual book club! I'm so glad to have everyone and seriously can't wait for our many discussions. I know many of you have expressed your interest in joining already and some that are a little sceptical, which is okay!

I wanted to let everyone know off the bat that you don't HAVE to have your own personal blog to be a part of the Novel Nest. However, you will need to be able to leave comments on my posts. Otherwise, what would be the fun of reading together! :)

Since we are just starting out, I wanted to keep things fun and simple. Nothing too complicated and nothing too controversial. I would like to try and have the majority of us decide on a book together, but also realize some books chosen may not be the style of read for others. I think that's part of the joy. You get to read something you normally wouldn't read and are welcome to express your own thoughts and opinions and quite possibly learn something you never thought you would!

Upon deciding, I will post our reading schedule {which will most likely be a chapter a week}. For those of you who tend to speed read and decide to play teacher's pet and read ahead, by all means, read ahead. However, please stick to the current chapter's topic of discussion at that time and try not drop any spoiler's in the process. :)

I would like to "meet" weekly, perhaps at the beginning, like every monday night? I will post my thoughts and review of that weeks reading and possible discussion questions and please feel free to comment! I am currently looking into other ways we could discuss in the future, but for now, commenting seems the easiest!

I'm looking forward to maybe getting to know everyone a little better! Happy reading!
